Today I went to the orthodontist (someone who puts braces on you). First I got an X-ray. Basically, they had me bite onto a small piece of plastic while this big machine moved around my head. Next, the orthodontist took a look at my teeth and said that I had a strong jaw. Then, mom, me, and the orthodontist talked about my teeth and how my lower jaw is slightly off to my right and that how I have a slight overbite and that my jaw is the last thing to grow in puberty and I'm going to need to have rubber bands in my mouth or else I'm going to have a really bad underbite which means that my lower jaw will stick out and I'll need surgery where they'll have to break my jaw. But the orthodontist was super nice and he said that he'll do whatever he has to so that I won't need surgery. And in two weeks from today, I will get braces! I'm nervous, but excited. He also said that my teeth in the very back that don't really come in until your my age are digging into the roots of the teeth that are in front of them. So here's a list of the most important stuff that I learned today:
The Orthodontist guy is Super nice
X-rays look scary, but are actually very boring
I have a strong jaw that is somewhat over to the right
I will need rubber bands in my mouth soon
I most likely will not need surgery
In two weeks I will get braces
I am going to get teeth pulled out soon.
Last time I went to the dentist in NY, I had 3 teeth pulled out and the Tooth Fairy gave me TEN DOLLARS! It hurt, but it was worth it. I also thought that the tooth that fell out long ago is actually coming in! And also, if you're getting braces and think that they will look ugly on you, most places have clear braces. Thanks for viewing!
If you suffer from an "improper" smile I can certainly understand why you would want to see a doctor and get braces. I have heard that they can be painful but the results are nothing short of amazing sometimes. I am glad that you were able to find a doctor that was nice and able to make you comfortable with the process.
